Symend:用金融科技改变债务催收

人们常说,需求推动创新。加拿大金融科技创企Symend联合创始人兼CEOHanifJoshaghani对此深表认同。Joshaghani来自一个贫穷的移民家庭,此类人群(尤其是对信用影响缺乏了解的人士)是收债机构重点关注对象之一。Symend的行业调查发现,目前借由收债机构的债务催收年成功率仅为7%。过去五年,美国不良贷款量由1500亿美元升至6000亿美元。Symend估计加拿大不良贷款数额为25亿美元。不良贷款中,40%为电信、公用事业及信用卡积欠。而收债策略过时才是造成这一困境的一个重要原因。受垂直领域软件开发启示,Symend将工作流自动化与以消费者为核心的策略落实到了收债营销领域。该SaaS解决方案初始目标群体为公共事业服务商、电信及无担保信用卡提供机构,旨在降低收债成本,提高收债销量,从而使商家与消费者双赢。2016年12月初,Symend获得了100万美元的种子轮融资,同期估值达到250万美元。Symend利用所获资金研发产品原型,其产品结合了自动化、预测分析、消费者出大及更佳的积极收债策略服务其试用用户。Joshaghani称Symend系统允许用户公司选择并决定收债策略使用顺序及所期产品特征。例如,使用Symend的企业可设置系统采用传统推广方案创制金融还款计划,或为一次性偿还设置折扣。此外,Symend平台还可以帮助提升用户公司的能力,使其能消除某些支付障碍。Joshaghani认为,人们没有及时偿还贷款的一大原因在于许多消费者并不完全了解信用的影响。因此,Symend可以借此机会对其进行信用教育,介绍一些金融规划工具,帮助其树立信用意识,进而早日归还债务。据了解,Symend早期试验已于今年夏天展开,以解决技术难点和客户痛点为主要目标。Joshaghani表示:"收款率不会是百分之百,永远不可能会。我真切地希望有一天欠款事件不再发生。但在此之前只能不断改进。我们的系统更为科学、高产且有效,为消费者与用户企业间创建了良性互动。但愿相比传统方式,Symend能够产生更好的效果。"Theysaythatnecessityisthemotherofinvention."Icamefromapoorimmigrantbackground,"saidHanifJoshaghani,cofounderandCEOofCanadianFinTechstartupSymend."Someofthebiggesttargetsforcollectionagentsarethoseareas,especiallypeoplewithalackofknowledgeoftheimpactofcredit.It'ssomethingthatIsawaroundmequiteabitwhenIwasakid,andit'ssomethingthatIthinkcanbeaddressed.There'sabetterwaytodoit."Thatbetterway,JoshaghanitoldKarenWebster,ishisnewsoftwareplatform-Symend.Targetedfirsttoutilityproviders,teledl66.cnsandunsecuredcreditcardsuppliers,itsSoftware-as-a-Servicesolutionintendstomakethedebtcollectingprocesslesscostly-andmoreeffective_sothatbusinessesandconsumerswin."IntheU.S.,forawholehostofreasons,theamountofdebtindelinquencyhasriseninleapsandboundsoverthelastdecadeorso,"JoshaghanitoldWebster."Butatthesametime,thesuccessofcollectingthosedebtshasgonedown."Symend'sindustryresearchfoundthatthecurrentdebtcollectionsystemusingcollectionagenciesseesanannualsuccessrateofjust7percent.OverthepastfiveyearsintheU.S.,Symendfoundthatdelinquentdebthasrisenfrom$150billiontoover$600billion.Thedl66.cnpanyestimatedthatnumberinCanadatobe$2.5billion.Some40percentofthisdelinquentdebtisaccruedtoteledl66.cns,utilitiesandcreditcardmarkets."Thetacticsusedbycollectionagentsarefairlyantiquated,"saidJoshaghani.HenotedthatinnovationsinothersoftwareverticalsinspiredSymend'splatformandincludedworkflowautomationandconsumer-centricapproachestooutreachinmarketing,innovationsinpaymentprocessing,aswellaspredictiveanalytics."Theseinnovationssuccessfullydeployedinothersoftwareverticalscanbeusedhere,"Joshaghanisaid."Thingshavedl66.cnealongwayinaveryshortperiodoftime,thingsthatcouldberepurposedin[thedebtcollecting]space."InearlyDecember,Symendcloseda$1millionseedinvestmentround,bringingSymend'slaunchvaluationto$2.5million,saidJoshaghani."We'rehappywiththeresultsofthefundraising."Thestartupisusingthefundstobuildoutitsprototype,whichusesadl66.cnbinationofautomation,predictiveanalytics,customeroutreachandbetterpositivecollectiontacticstohelpitspilotcustomers.JoshaghanisaidthatSymend'ssystemallowsparticipatingdl66.cnpaniestochooseandprioritizewhichcollectiontacticsandproductfeaturestheywanttouse."It'salmostlikethey'rebuildingacampaigntotargetanindividualcustomer,butinsteadoftryingtogeneratealeadforsales,they'retryingtogenerateacollection,"hesaid."Youcanyieldbetterresultsasyoutrackandmeasureconsumers,profilingthemagainstthetypeofconsumersthatyou'retargetingtogetbetterandbetteratoptimizingyourtacticsthemoreyouusethesystem."CompaniesusingSymend'splatform,forexample,canconfigurethesystemtousetraditionaloutreachmethodstocreatefinancialpaymentplansordiscountsforone-timepayments.Inaddition,Symend'splatformenhancestheabilityofitsparticipatingdl66.cnpaniestoremovesomeofthehurdlestorepayment."Oneofthebiggestreasonsthatpeopledon'trepayintimeisbecausemanyconsumers,believeitornot,don'thaveadl66.cnprehensiveunderstandingofcreditimpacts,"saidJoshaghani."So,wecanhitthemwithsomecrediteducation,introducesomefinancialplanningtoolsandconnectthemwithcreditrehabilitationplatforms."Symend'sgoalisnotonlytocollectondebtsbutalsotoaddressrepaymentissueswiththehopetobuildabetterconsumerandabetterrelationshipbetweentheconsumerandthevendorcollector."Itwillgeneratemoreconsumerspayingtheinitialdebtbutwillalsomakethemlesslikelytoendupincollectionsonfuturetransactions,"Joshaghanisaid."It'salong-termapproachtounderstandingwhythesepaymentsaren'thappeningratherthanjustfocusingoncollectingit.""What'sbeentraditionallydonehashadsuchalowsuccessrateandsuchabadconsumerresult,"hesaid."It'saveryhostileapproach.Webelieveourapproachcouldresultinnotonlyahighercollectionratebutalsoalowercostandabetterrelationshipbetweentheconsumerandthevendor."JoshaghanisaidthatSymendhopestogolivewithafewpilotclientssometimeinsummer2017."Theideaistoaddressthebiggesttechnologicalandpainpointaspectsforclientsfirstinthepilot,"hesaid."Asofnow,sometimethissummer."Joshaghaninotedthat,whileit'sunlikelythedebtcollectionsprocesswilleverbeperfect,Symendwillcontinuetoworkonitsplatformtoimprovethecollectionsstatusquo."It'snotgoingtobe100percent-itneverwillbe,"hesaid."Idohopeonedayweliveinaworldwherethesethingsareneverhappening.Butuntilthatday,it'sallaboutincrementalimprovement.Oursystemisamorescientific,productive,efficientapproach.Itbuildspositiveengagementwithconsumersandclients.Hopefully,thiswillhaveabetterresultrelativetowhat'sbeentraditionallydone."
